Help people find answers in approved business knowledge.

Useful guidance can be scattered across documents that staff struggle to search. VT LAB assesses knowledge assistants for a defined set of approved sources and questions. The assistant supports finding and explaining information while making its sources and limits visible; it should not invent policy to fill a gap.

01

Define what the assistant may use

Choose the documents, intended users and questions within scope. Identify who maintains the information and how outdated guidance is handled. Access rules must follow the source material: an assistant does not make restricted information suitable for every employee or customer merely because it can retrieve it.

02

Evaluate answers and their limits

Use representative questions, including ambiguous requests and questions the sources cannot answer. A useful response should provide context for checking and explain when the evidence is insufficient. Recommendations or actions beyond finding information require their own scope; confident wording is not proof that an answer is correct.

03

Bring sources and difficult questions

Share approved material, common questions and examples of misleading answers. Explain who may access it and who handles unresolved cases. We assess feasibility and evaluation criteria before building a bounded assistant, with wider data access and operational actions kept behind explicitly agreed permissions.
